None at all, we either keep him for peanuts or we cash in for profit and invest that into a young player we can get a return for down the line.

free in 2 years, but then we’d have had a world class player for 10.36M in annual costs for 2 more years and we’ve saved a bunch. Feels like a risk worth taking to get their intended outcome, to sell him for big profit now.

£20.72M over 2 years, which adds increased risk. Much simpler to keep his cost at £10.36M a year, then if we want to offer a 2 year extension near the end we do and we’ve saved ourselves £26.14M or a Saudi club wants to pay us £80-90M this summer and we turn a profit. Worse case he leaves for….

Wants a new contract, let’s say he wants £250K pw on a 2 year extension with a £6M signing bonus. That means he’s £22M for each of the next 2 years of wages, bonus and transfer fee, and £14.5M for the 2 years extended. That means we’re lining ourselves up for £73M in costs across 4 years opposed…

With the way transfer fees and wages work, it gets amortised across the life of the contract. So if we say based on figures online he was £37.5M and is on £55K pw on a 5 year deal. That means combined he costs us £10.36M a year. So if we keep him with no new contract he £10.36M a year or if he….

Agreed, definitely reads that we’re “not looking to sell him” but actually we’d gladly move him on if someone comes in with a big fee.

When you’re 25 almost 26, you sign a 5 year contract that takes you to 31. This is your chance to make money for the rest of your life. If someone is mad enough to pay it I don’t blame him!

We had the same issue last summer, as soon as there was doubt I thought best to move on. He loves those Spanish mountains too much!
