a man with everything except his humanity. bank accounts full of an unspendable fortune vast enough for a hundred lifetimes yet his soul is forever just out of reach. a horrendously grim image.

in 1998 they played three CA dates and sold 21,500 tickets total (assuming all shows sold out)

Bill Graham holds 8500
Universal Amphitheater holds 6250 x two shows

but in 2025 they sold out Sept 6th & 7th at the Rose Bowl (capacity of 90,000 per night)

those are MASSIVELY different ticket numbers

you're misremembering how popular they actually were over here at the time
September 7, 2025 at 3:41 PM
look at the venues they were playing in 2000. Radio City holds 6000, the Orpheum in Boston holds 2700, the Tower Theater in PA holds 3200, the Palace Theater in OH holds 2700

But now they just played for 52,000 at Soldier Field. They were never even close to this popular here back in their heyday

for what it's worth, Ian (who I had never heard of before today) very much agrees with you and makes this exact argument in his full substack post
