And AND AND Pokémon tcg does competitive much better than mtg, which has kind of turned into basically just commander at game stores.

And AND some of the more expensive cards are just expensive because they’re used in a lot of different decks, which makes it much easier to pivot strategies. Goodbye, $80+ Sheoldred that I only use in a couple of standard decks!

AND Pokémon tcg has mastered how it does special treatments. A lot of the special treatments are chase cards, while the normal versions are pretty affordable.

And if you want to buy things with money, it is just SO MUCH CHEAPER than paying for packs in magic arena. I spent <$20 on code cards from eBay and had like 100 packs of the newest set. Compare to Magic, where $100 in gems doesnt even get you 100 packs

And the online client gives you so much free stuff, too! I logged in and had three to four passable decks that I could work on upgrading toward having something really standard competitive.
