Personally I don't think you are missing anything. PAs might argue their course is different and the focus on the medical model allows them to function closer to doctors than nurses. However, personally I don't agree with PAS starting 2 bands above newly qualified nurses physios, OTs and dieticians

PAs training is a 2 year course with the entry qualification of a previous degree. My understanding is there is no requirement for this degree to have any direct clinical relevance so the value is debatable. Nurses have a 3 year course directly relevant to their clinical practice.

Newly qualified doctor starts on 34,500 whereas new PA is on 48,788 (Scotland). Doctors will eventually overtake PAs but it takes at least 4 years

PAs typically start at Band 7 of the Agenda for Change pay scale. This is equivalent to a senior charge nurse who will have years of clinical experience. Newly qualified nurse starts at Band 5 with 1 more year of training. PA starting salary is higher than doctors but with less responsibility
