Spent a long while attempting to write a fanatically religious character before realising that I just don’t understand where such a person is coming from. Doesn’t matter how much I’ve read or how many people of such mind I’ve spoken to, at root there’s a disconnect I can’t seem to bridge.

Of everything I read in 2024, Drive Your Plow by Olga Tokarczuk had the greatest effect on me, as well as being the most entertaining read. Poetic yet uncluttered and clear, Tokarczuk delivers a narrative, and a protagonist, that wrong foot the reader at every turn. Delightful. 5 stars

After many months of farting about with my novel idea, it finally came together today. I can at last say with some certainty that I have a WIP on the go, and it’s moving forward. No more shorts for a while, time to power onwards. Feels really good.
