I mean, Warren had a plan as well.

The presidential election pretty clearly indicates that a majority of Americans are ok with stepping on the less fortunate if they think they'll benefit from doing so. Overhauling the health care system will require sacrifices Americans aren't willing to make.

The problem is, my son gets one Humira injection a week, and our insurance has been pretty good about it, so instead of wanting to improve things across the board I'm incentivized to protect what I have.
December 12, 2024 at 3:07 PM
I mean, exactly. That turned out not to be true for everyone, and the Dems got raked over the coals over it.
December 12, 2024 at 2:04 PM
Ah, ok
December 11, 2024 at 9:08 PM
Neither of them are Democrats.
December 11, 2024 at 7:44 PM
ffs, two more Democrats in the Senate would've rendered their two votes meaningless.

And leftists are likely to be distrustful of any media financed by a billionaire, which is what it will take to establish such an apparatus. Plus, a lot of the louder voices on the left would rather shit on the Democratic Party than give them credit for things.
December 11, 2024 at 6:36 PM
The creation of a liberal/left analogue to the right wing media apparatus is largely doomed to failure, though, because media consumers on the center-left's minds don't work the same way the ones on the right do. They won't sit for hours and listen to why they should believe x, y, and z.

I haven't blocked him because I still haven't actually seen him. As far as I can recall, I've only seen a couple of screenshots. I'll block him when I see him, but I'm not about to go looking for him.

I'm less concerned about what we have and haven't learned about polling and more concerned about what we have and haven't learned through elections, which is that a majority of Americans don't care about hurting the less fortunate if they believe doing so benefits themselves.

We saw this with the fight to pass the ACA. It's the biggest obstacle to single payer (apart from generic fears of socialism). Massive reform is going to require tradeoffs, and people are going to need some convincing to accept them.
December 11, 2024 at 5:27 PM
He's not saying people don't dislike the system. He's explicitly making the case that most people's personal situation is at least good enough that they're likely to push back on any reforms they think could risk their personal status quo.
December 11, 2024 at 5:22 PM
Do you think he doesn't know that, or that he thinks it doesn't matter because those people are the ones who have to be convinced of any reforms? Remember the ACA, and how people didn't want to give up their plans? And that was when plans were objectively worse than they are now.

Why was he there for the Sox? He in inextricably tied to Cleveland in my mind. Wikipedia says he was with Chicago for about 4 seasons, but he was with Cleveland for 12.
December 11, 2024 at 5:04 PM
I think that's definitely true, but the problem is that the online left has been framing it that way as much as anyone else has been.
December 11, 2024 at 5:00 PM
Usually I only follow someone back if several people I follow also follow them. I'm not an important account, so there's little reason to follow me. If following me is indicative of the feed they're curating for themselves, it's liable to be a mess, and I don't want it bleeding into mine.🤷‍♂️

Yeah. To the extent that it IS economic anxiety, it's less "I can't afford groceries" and more "Am I really doing ok when *those* people seem to be doing fine?"
