Only one I didn't like was Duck Detective. Polished enough, but found the actual deduction part vague. Maybe it's not trying to operate on those terms, but I don't see the appeal of fudging answers in goofy cases. Worst Day Ever shows you can strike a silly tone and still offer legit puzzles.

Enjoyed the spookier stylings of Utter A Name, too, where you help spirits pass on by identifying their name and killer using Obra Dinn-y snapshots of the past. Has a couple of plot details that give this one some sneaky reveals.

Also played Case of Fraud, which is quite like Roottrees, except you're filling in a company org chart and have a prescribed stack of documents to take info from (no extra web search layer). A bit simpler and over in a couple of hours as a result, but the office politics and vibe are well observed.

Ah, right. Hadn't seen a retroactive pushback against previously celebrated favourites - that is a little bit 'throwing out baby with the bathwater' for sure. Need to check out Starvaders.

What do you think is being unfairly swept in with the metaprogression games? I've generally steered clear of most rogue-adjacent stuff this year as I'm trying to mix up my diet a bit, so I'm genuinely curious.
