One Year of board gaming...

I was told the only way to really know what was worth keeping, and what you could let go of, is by logging the games you actually played.

What's most incredible is that a number of my favorite games didn't get a single play this year. But, I'm not about to let them go!

Years and years ago my group picked up all of #TIMEstories by spacecowboysoff.bsky.social and then COVID happened, but then we started seeing people again.

Little by little we've been chipping our way through. Today we finished the penultimate white cycle adventure.

Best so far!

Just finished reading my first book of the summer: The Dad Rock That Made Me a Woman by @nikostratis.com

It's a compelling narrative of The North, of Music those of us in the 80s grew up with - or would have benefitted from growing up with - and insights into finding a self that was always yours.

Playing #AGentleRain by @kevinwilson42.bsky.social & @incredibledream.bsky.social has been as relaxing as promised.

Even adding math (14 images across 28 tiles) hasn't taken away from the calm.

This quick solo experience really pushing the boundaries between #boardgame and puzzle.

It took a while, but I finally got a solo victory in #ArkNova. Sixteen points (final scoring wasn't complete here).

As a 45 minute #soloboardgame it works well. You can scale its difficulty if you really want to, by adding an extra turn each round.

Summer really provides the time!

Realizing that just because #MarvelUnited said I had to arrange the cards in a table hogging circle didn't mean I actually had to do that was a real game changer!

Nick and Maria went in to beat the skulls after a terrible loss with Gladiator Hulk and Hulkbuster!

#401games is having some ridiculous sales on #MarvelUnited right now, so there goes my paycheque.

But, my 9 year old enjoys playing the game with me, so that means I can justify any expense, right?

Now that I've corrected myself on the damage rule, it's much easier!

It's a great #BoardGame!

It took me a while to figure out Maria Hill, because her precon deck for #MarvelChampions was... Not good...

But now, all it takes me is every die and token I have to keep track of all her supports.

She can take on the world!

A weekend by the lake is full of fishing by day and the @tettix.bsky.social game #DeepRegrets by Judson Cowan by night.

Some day I'll get the Geist back to port... It's the only thing still keeping me at depth 1 while cataloging the #lovecraftian sea.

One hour fishing in the lake... Very little results. One hour in Deep Regrets and most of my second depth is catalogued.

A month WITHOUT #MarvelChampions, but WITH #MarvelLegendary would have been inconceivable in April.

Playing Legendary with the family has helped, and #Lure has been going over great. Almost time to start casting off into a lake.

With four copies of each #waypoints map, I'm ready to play this @postmarkgames.bsky.social print and play game over, and over, and over.

I think I'm going to need more #laminator packages!

There's a lot of depth in a sheet of paper you can fold up in your pocket. All you need is 1D6 and a pencil.

On the weekend I bought #Waypoints by @postmarkgames.bsky.social

It's a #printandplay #boardgame I have played it far more than I expected. And, my kids enjoyed the Petting Zoo community expansion.

Yesterday I decided I knew what had to be done...

Played through #MarvelLegendary again today with me son.

Hard to remember why I stopped playing that #boardgame but, it's back on the table again, 13 years after we first got it.

The #LegendaryEncounters games took over. Now I need to see if the X-Men can solve the X-Files in a legendary X-over.
May 19, 2025 at 11:13 PM
Broke out #MarvelLegendary today, a little disappointed that I didn't have the Secret Wars expansions from years ago, and I'm not willing to drop 300 bucks on what was once 50...

...Only to discover I did have those expansions. Today was a good day.

Until ten minutes into the second for the leafs

It's possible this #boardgame collection is getting a little out of hand.

People actually play these things, right?

I was delighted to get some original @shawndaley.bsky.social art from one of the best comics, A Better Place. Written by @duanemurray.bsky.social, it's a heartwarming tale of loss, life, and parents and children.

Never thought I'd be able to get any of the pages. Now, I regret not getting more!

I was avoiding the campaign of Under Falling Skies, because I thought I wasn't good enough for it yet.

Today I decided to crack it open... and it's a ton of fun! It also adds so many new components to the game.

The transferable lesson here: Never limit yourself because you think you "can't do it"
February 23, 2025 at 7:13 PM
@tylerpage.bsky.social delighted to see you're on blue sky!

Can't wait for the new book.

Christmas Break in Board Games. Making the most of the two weeks away from work.
January 5, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Christmas is a time to play at least one of the thirty board games you've collected all year, and then never opened from shrink.

Gloomhaven: Buttons and Bugs became my most played game of the year in a matter of two days. Its portability really added to that.

...If only it came with instructions.

And, indeed there were both upside down clowns, and Santa, himself, at the Toronto Santa Claus parade.

Christmas seems to be well on its way in the city.
November 24, 2024 at 9:52 PM
Waiting for Santa to show up.

And clowns. There are always upside down clowns at the Toronto Santa Claus parade!

Second post: I have a website full of free resources for teachers.

I think it's important that educators support educators, so that we can all support the next generation.

I am dedicated to never blocking access to resources behind a paywall.
