This is coming up a lot and people are (quite correctly) pointing out the shameless racism and bland food. Seen Reform-adjacent Twitter these days? That's what those people WANT. Plus, to be fair, the rich-poor gap was narrower. (But yes, it's mostly people being nostalgic for childhood)

Hello yes I was wondering how I can apply to be increasingly isolated at a royal lodge, please? I assume I can bring my own books and cats?

Strictly speaking, my first single (45p, Woolworths, Lincoln) was bought for me. I can only remember the first album I bought with my own money (£3.99, WH Smith, Lincoln).

There are loads of very old maps in the exhibition, but I was particular struck by this very niche one: a quilt, sewn by inmates at an Oxfordshire prison, showing a life-size map of one of their cells. The detail and 3D effect are remarkable. Look at the remote control!

A quick hand-drawn map by the actual T. E. "Mr Arabia" Lawrence (of Arabia)!

I know the recording is from the 50s, but I can't help but be reminded of the schoolroom at Tyneham, Dorset, preserved as it was when the army requisitioned the entire village in 1943.

That thing where you point at a whole area of the bar: "yep, all of them, please"

Views from a late afternoon walk. I'm about a week too late to get the west side of Box Hill at its multi-coloured autumnal best, but still, sheep in a vineyard!

Glorious sunshine at Leyton Orient, clearly a generous and selfless club, given that the orientation (geddit?!) of the ground means that the away fans get most of the sunshine.

(I have now forgiven them for the late 90s full-in-the-face blizzard and 5-0 defeat.)

Swindon beer festival yesterday: lovely, as ever. With so many local branches cancelling/reducing their annual fests (I have thoughts about how national CAMRA are coping with... stuff) it's impressive that Swindon put on such a big event in such a great location (Steam Museum).

In my concern over Degerfors (the only Swedish club my grandad coached that's still in the top tier) looking doomed to a relegation play-off at best, I forgot to do the maths at the top of the table. Mjällby champions. Wow.

Looks like Microsoft have removed the OS Maps option from Bing. That's a shame – it was so useful for planning routes across multiple paper maps, and easier than scrolling the OS app on a tiny phone screen.

I think I could spend a whole day ambling up and down this sunken lane and its neighbours.

Honestly, you will not believe what these flag idiots have done now. They're only gone and dumped a load of poppies in this farmer's field!

Look, it's @whenisbirths.bsky.social new book!

I followed "Don't Stop the Music" by date, listening to all the musical examples. But here we have a whole decade... do I try and follow 10 timelines chronologically, or read it normally, gorging myself on ALL the music? This first-world life, eh?

I applaud this development in crisp culture.

Oh go on then... one last visit to the cosy, friendly Moon & Sons pub in Caen. Fabulous beer (local, Belgian and... Irish, strangely enough) vegan food and loads of fantasy literature references for people better versed then me.

Envious that the Echinops at the botanical garden in Caen are still going strong. Feels like a late bonus burst of summer after a couple of chilly days. Four species of butterfly too.

Take care, everyone. There's a lot of scenery out there today.

Saw a small patch of these this afternoon, and for a moment was wondering why someone had left all the apples from their picnic.

Does anyone use these ones? I never have an injury small enough that warrants a plaster (and mostly I seem to hurt my fingers, so I want something that'll wrap around and stay in place).

Lovely afternoon, went for a walk, "rewarded" self with a pint.
