I think this plays a part in why some folks are against adjusting their understanding when new evidence comes out that contradicts what was taught in school when they were kids. Instead of thinking "oh cool" it's "what are they teaching these days"

I used to live near a port city and this would happen all the time, so much so I actually looked imit up. There are usually laws around how long they can block a crossing, usually something like 5 minutes, before they start to get fined. The problem is the at they were never enforced.

You missed the whole point of your job. It's not to "keep the government open" it's to "keep our citizens safe." You failed to do your job and you should lose it because of this.
