Object syntax always felt like the right thing to do in typescript, since defining css means defining property-value pairs. Since chrome added the "Copy all declarations as JS" option in dev-tools I didn’t experience any inconveniences with object syntax.

I’ve always seen CSS-in-JS as “CSS in JavaScript as the host language” regardless of CSS or CSSOM Syntax. Which would indeed make tailwinds []-styles in JSX some kind of CSS-in-JS (and without gaining much from the host language)

Good take! Furthermore linearia, styleX, vanilla-extract and panda describe themselves as zero-runtime or build-time CSS-in-JS. That would make “how it works” CSS in browser runtime but not the browser runtime? Also browser runtime CSS-in-JS allows to use CSS syntax in template strings [1/2] 🧵
