I still remember looking to see what the church news said about the AP investigation story of child sex abuse in Arizona being fostered by the church hotline in order to keep it quiet. DN was crickets, and that was the last time I looked to them as a source for anything news related.

Is this a new article? I feel like I saw one a month or two ago that claimed something about people being less happy after leaving the church or something to that effect

Plus there was that other strike with survivors where they didn’t murder them, but instead arrested them and repatriated them to their countries (who then let them go because they had no evidence of crimes). I wonder if anybody is asking why they are selectively murdering survivors?

Yes! My feelings exactly. There is no reason doctrinally (or morally) to claim clergy-penitent privilege. It allows abuse to continue and does nothing for the salvation of the abuser. (Also, screw the abusers salvation anyways if they continue to sexually abuse others)

And stop the sin (not just go right back to sexually abusing someone) you might as well have not repented at all. The confession makes zero difference by itself, so protecting abusers at the cost of allowing abuse to continue by claiming this privilege is wrong.

It really bothers me that the church claims clergy-penitent privilege because it appears completely at odds with the doctrine of repentance. Confession alone does nothing- if you don’t do what you can to make restitution (including imo confessing to legal authorities and accepting any punishment)

Oh boy- I had a patient they other week who started thrashing her neck violently as soon as I put the collar on. She didn’t have a c spine injury thankfully but the collar would have absolutely made it worse if she did. I am not a fan of collars.
