they actually succeeded in raising kids who raised kids, how are we doing. I'm sure there was plenty of interpersonal conflict and dominance and whatnot but no way they could afford violence as a way of life the way we with our massive surpluses can.

don't know that sorting by color constitutes a theory of race, as race is understood these days: did they have a concept of inherited characteristics or mental inclinations, or of race as broader than tribe? not that I know of but a question for specialists, maybe so

they had been there for a very long period, and whoever they were they were not treated as privileged

I take your point, but it seems to me as a rule social theory follows social practice, developed with the goal of justifying the evil that you're already doing just because you can and it works for you. Slave trade existed in pre-modern times.
