Finally here! Two years after #NASA 's #OSIRIS-REx mission returned samples of #asteroid #Bennu to Earth, we have now received 319 mg to study in our labs. We are hoping to determine Bennu’s isotopic composition and learn more about its “birthplace” in the Solar System.

Christian Renggli receives an ERC Starting Grant. In the Knudsen cell (the small white cylinder right next to the tweezers), only a few millimeters in size, an equilibrium is established between molten rock and evaporating gas. The gas is then analyzed in the quadrupole mass spectrometer. In the furnace, artificial magma (here in the crucible[KDB1]) is produced from silicate rock and additives at temperatures of up to 1500 degrees Celsius.

Here are some great shots from our #GREGORSolarTelescope observation campaign in July. Peering into the #photosphere and #chromosphere, we caught several emerging active regions – and a #flare! This will help us study the plasma dynamics in active regions and how energy builds up to create a flare.

Last Wednesday, MPS participated in the company cup of the Altstadtlauf in Göttingen. 12 motivated athletes set off on the 5.5 km course in scorching heat of 37°C.
All reached the finish line, and MPS Team 1 secured 26th place out of 253 teams in the team ranking.🏅
