Multiparty Maryland
@mpmd.bsky.social
Multiparty Maryland (MPMD) is a non-partisan, non-ideological advocate for multiparty democracy based on the principle of proportional representation of political parties in legislatures.
Know better than to trust phrasing of anon quotes, but it would be hard to mock up a better caricature of a dem pol being buffeted about by “the groups” than this. “the nutrition people, they’re worried about running out of nutrition” 😩

Credulous reporting for credulous people. Trumps goons threaten catastrophe w/ usual heaping helping of MAGA gibberish, but ultimately daddy trump intervenes to bring us back to our senses. 🙄 a decade of this & still so easily played. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/03/n...

The right wing propaganda machine is escalating to the logical next step: “they’ll kill us if we ever relinquish power!” We must accept the total destruction of freedom and democracy as their short term goal and act accordingly. The shutdown is the fulcrum, what happens in the streets is the lever
October 3, 2025 at 4:22 PM
We’ve been saying it for months. We need millions in the streets to stop this. Next chance 10/18.

If you wanna see what a techno fascist surveillance state will be IN AMERICA, look at Israel’s collab with corp tech RE Gaza and West Bank. Intercepting, recording & storing phone calls on cloud systems, using AI to analyze, ID & target at scale & RETROACTIVELY justify killings.

Why? Because the dem base has a massive blind spot for its own professional class interests.

Too little, too late. Going further will require a radical shift in perspective not just among dem pols but the dem base itself. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/15/m...

On how winner-take-all elections prevent good people from winning and holding office, noting the example of Charles A. Sumner, US rep from San Francisco who opposed the telecommunications monopoly of his era (sound familiar?)

The problem with dem’s redistricting counterpunch is that it’s simply too little, too late. That they had to wait until trump was back in power, slashing & burning democracy and public services, building a national gestapo, deploying the military into cities etc etc before breaking a precious norm…
August 14, 2025 at 9:23 PM
The redistricting battle is a concession that, at this point at least, the GOP still believes elections will matter next year. New districts with more narrow majorities could be especially susceptible in a wave election. Everything depends on the actions taken b/t now and then to protect elections

A significant chunk of the MD House of Delegates is elected through this undemocratic process. Proportional RCV (aka Single Transferable Vote as used in Ireland) is one path toward a multiparty system. With right wing attacks on elections growing even in “blue” MD, it’s high time for a new approach.
