The hunt for water is over. In northern Zimbabwe, Mpilo Foundation restores pumps and creates reliable, nearby access to clean water. What once meant long, risky journeys is now found at the centre of the community—steady, shared, and no longer chased.

Recent visits to northern Zimbabwe show how communities like Chiedza thrive with new clean water. Nearly a year after their pump was installed, residents greeted us with song and gratitude. Moments like these reveal the quiet joy such support brings.

Yearly visits keep our work honest and effective. By returning to each community, we build trust, support local ownership, solve issues early, and ensure our wells and solar systems keep delivering lasting change. We don’t dig and dash—we stay and grow together.

The Mat North 2024 project brought clean water to over 6,200 people in north-western Zimbabwe through new and restored pumps. Thirteen communities now have greater freedom to shape their future—stronger, more independent, and ready to write their next chapter. 💧🌱

Zimbabwe's once top-ranking education system is increasingly facing severe shortcomings: high student dropout, a lack of teachers, who are underpaid and overworked. At this national scale, Mpilo Foundation can't do a lot. But we can aid local education by keeping students healthy. And you can help!

Phumakanye Primary School received a solar installation, dramatically improving the life of the more than 250 students and their 12 teachers.
The light allows for studying at night, and keeps the wild animals (in this case especially elephants) away.

Ellen and I recently had been invited to talk about Mpilo Foundation in the local NGK church in Heemse, NL, where we had a GP practice for 25 years.
We briefly presented our cause.
Afterwards, as we all sat down for coffee, it became heartwarmingly clear that the people hadn't forgotten about us.
