Probably not but most employees don't have any way to check emails out of hours unless they have a government device - laptop that you took home or a government cellphone - which most don't. Then you only check emails when you get to work in the morning.This is true across the government.

Acting Director in name sure but we know who's calling the shots regarding these cuts. The pressure he is under to toe the line or lose his job must be massive. Can you imagine being plucked from obscurity to be head of over 18K employees? It's nuts. Could he have said no? I have no idea 😵💫

True but complying with an order that he knows to be illegal and one that will be taken to court as a way to appear compliant is actually pretty smart given the death knell that is hanging over NIH right now. I dunno. This situation sucks for everyone and i wouldn't wish to be in his position 🤷🏻

It's horrendous but I think we need to be clear who is calling the shots and making these calls and I think we all know it isn't Matt Memoli. Demonizing him is a pointless exercise and deflects from who is orchestrating this imo

Do I think he is qualified to run NIH? No. Do I think it was his idea to gut research through a reduction in overhead rates. No. Do I think we're in unprecedented times where the future of the NIH is in question. Yes. Is he trying to save NIH employees jobs? Yes I believe so.

But that wasn't the comment. I don't think he expected to be running NIH - let's not pretend that he expected or asked for this or that it isn't a temporary measure. He's not the enemy. He runs a clinical vaccine lab - it's lazy and irresponsible if you're trying to tar him as anti vax 🤷🏻

To be fair he is not anti-Fauci, he disagreed on some vaccine policies and publicly (and collegiately) debated him about them. Having a difference in opinion is important for good science.
