I understand wholeheartedly that some individuals may not feel comfortable around someone with gender-affirming care done. To better cater to these individuals, as a female, I will no longer shave hair off my body nor wear makeup in public. I hope I can do my small part in these trying times.

Something I wrote years ago as part of a book I never got around to finishing.... or even finishing the first chapter of
Long: "The kitten clock encroaching on the old cramped desk was finally ticking again. Brought to tears by the noise, the former-parents, Emily Heartvanished and Henry Heartvanished, in the now empty household had never noticed the odd silence in their young daughter’s bedroom. It was the silence of the old no-longer-ticking miniature grandfather clock — cat-themed and with a long wagging tail pendulum — that they never noticed stopped until it was fixed by some odd magician in an apron wielding double A batteries and a screw driver. The magician held the dead batteries in a tight fist, not letting go the remnants of the silence which had been left in its unusual kitty-shaped coffin for longer than the Heartvanished parents should have left it. “She’ll need to hear something on her way back, or she’ll never come out of it.” Emily Heartvanished cried. The awful ticking noise was bled her ears. Hammy was now further gone with every loud break in time. Emily’s husband, who was nearly brought to tears by his father’s action, nearly fought the man. The man who he used to respect, the kind man with gentle hands, shouldn’t have made such a cruel joke. Despite every wish of the couple, the room looked untouched. The magicians’s activities seen in the freshly painted walls and fresh herbs on the window sill. The desk had been moved to better accommodate Hammy’s new bed, and her window had been left open for her every night. Even if she would never need it, it was another empty gesture of goodwill from Henry’s father. “She’ll be coming back for this.” He gestured to the desk clock he was so proud of, thinking fondly of hanging it on the wall this time to clear her desk space. The space felt akin to kindnesses only adults find endearing. The magician, although to no one but Hammy, popped his tongue on the roof of his mouth, mimicking the clock inside. “Well, if that doesn’t bring her back —” Their daughter was near dead, and they could all do nothing but paint and saw."
