This time of the year I tend to get nesty. I love the dark lamp-lit corners warmed by the fireplace. I made this little area to read tarot in for the winter. These cards are so special, they needed a dedicated spot. The skull beads are from New Orleans in 2010. #witchsky #occultsky #druidsky

It may seem like a little thing, but this is a huge win for me. I struggled to get these peppers to germinate, struggled to keep them alive, struggled to wait for them to turn red, struggled to get them to dry properly but finally.. ta da!! Homemade paprika!! Spicy and delish. Hope the rest go red.

The enshittification of space.
Over 1,800 Starlink satellites are leaking radio signals – and they're drowning out the cosmos. Space should be silent, especially in the radio frequencies astronomers use to study the early universe. But that silence is being disrupted. Using a telescope array in the remote Australian desert, scientists detected more than 112,000 unintended radio emissions from 1,806 Starlink satellites. Some of the signals were 10,000 times stronger than the faint cosmic whispers researchers were trying to detect. The interference showed up in 2.4 million full-sky images, revealing a growing problem. Because these radio signals are unintentional, they fall outside current space regulations – a major blind spot as thousands more satellites head to orbit. Astronomers warn that without better shielding or smarter design, we could lose our ability to hear the cosmic dawn – the faint radio echoes of the first stars and galaxies ever formed. It was a glorious week with my grand littles, mornings making apple leather, afternoons on the lake watching the sun go down. And my daughter managed to sneak a damn zucchini into my truck as I was leaving. Didn't notice for hours. (I have my OWN zucchini to deal with!!) Perfect last week of summer.

Back in the day, our shady backroad deals were for weed. Now it's laying hens. 😂Added to the flock today: 3 sturdy little red hens & 3 Copper Marans. They are in quarantine from the others for a few weeks, but all can see each other. And of course I can't get a good pic. #gardenfriends #adorable

Pumpkin applesauce cake because it's cold and rainy and I feel like fall. Plus it's gluten-free so daughter can enjoy. Recipe in the alt description. #autumniscoming #Lughnasadh
My oven is broken and I was dying for a pumpkin spiced something. I have a big counter top turkey roaster so I figured.. ha! I also wanted to make it so my daughter could eat it so I created a gluten and dairy free cake using certified gluten free rolled oats: Dry: 4 cups of freshly pulverized oats into flour (measure after you take it out of the blender) 2 cups unrefined organic cane sugar 1 tsp each of cinnamon and freshly ground nutmeg 1/2 tsp each of whole allspice smashed in a mortar and pestle, and salt 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda Wet: 2 cups of pumpkin puree (from the freezer from last year's jack o'lantern) 1 pint of home canned applesauce (trying to use up last year's) 1/2 cup of oil 2 eggs 1 tbsp vanilla Mix all together really well then let sit for a few minutes to hydrate the oat flour. I put this into an angel food pan because it fit well on the rack inside my turkey roaster but wow, did it take a long time to bake, at least an hour and a half or longer. I was testing it every 10 minutes for the last 40 minutes or so. Next time, I will bake it in a 9 x 13 instead. It makes a very soft, moist, crumbly cake. We have been devouring it this afternoon. Pic is cake and tea on the counter. The mug says "witches brew" on the side.

We are the Mama bears bringing baskets of turnips and beans from our own gardens. We wander the countryside looking for u-pick berry farms, and wild patches too, filling the freezers and jam cupboards. We weave magic in our steamy kitchens, jars upon jars gathering in our backrooms and basements. The greenhouse is overgrown with weeds and also full of lettuce and cucumbers hiding from the afternoon heat. We make food, harvest food and preserve food for our families but also for the love of it, the smell of ripe peaches blanching off their blush skins, tomato sauces bubbling away the hours, the ping of sealing jars while tea brews and crickets click, porch chairs creak and birds whistle in the brush. This life, this land, this way. For the love of it. A sink full of garden vegetables- potatoes, turnips, carrots, beets. Beside the sink is a dill head and a bowl of raspberries.
