NO ONE THINKS YOU’RE NOT ALARMED. THEY THINK YOU’RE WASTING TIME & ENERGY ARGUING OVER DEFINITIONS. Sometimes definitions aren’t what’s important. For example —
Anyone: “Oh no, the house is on fire!”
Tom: “Yes, but technically it’s not called on fire. It’s called ablaze. Get it right.”

I looked at your credentials. Are you pretending to be dense? You’re responding to a strawman assertion. Or is Harvard just lowering its standards that much?

Tom — Is the daughter at risk of ICE taking her or loved ones? Is the daughter a person of color? Is the daughter trans? Is the daughter poor? Is the daughter in a state where safe abortions are not an option? No? Okay then let me fix her assertion: “It’s bad but it’s not that bad FOR ME.”

I’m sure it has, Tom. But has it occurred to you those in targeted, marginalized demographics with few financial resources may feel they have no choice? Has it occurred to you that maybe you could use your stature in a more productive way than berating and belittling others?

Even out front on some things. So that’s disappointing. And now this bizarre fixation. If he’s trying to say there’s still hope then just say that, or point to orgs working to preserve democracy that could use support. Or literally anything else than just obsessing over definitions.

Ah okay thanks. Wish he could just say that. 🙄 And the answer is, no, we can’t vote them out anymore. At least not on this trajectory and I see no evidence that anything will change that. If anything, there’s evidence to the contrary. Tom used to be more of an honest guy about this stuff. 1/2

Yes exactly re target demo — I hear you loud and clear. Easy for a well-to-do straight white man to say we’re not there yet. I’ve been really disappointed at the blindness many men like Tom have had.

Right? I do not get his obsession with this. Is it denial? And this actually similar to what drives me nuts about commentators/pundits/etc — they mostly REFUSE to put things in context and say or do anything PRO-active. All reactive. And shock every time one of the most predictable steps happens.
