I heard that phrase in synagogue growing up! So if Christian Zionists invented it, Zionist Jews definitely adopted it!

I got mine done, 100% match with Ashkenazi communities from Eastern Europe, nothing with people from Palestine, which is unsurprising. You go far enough back and we’re all African.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that Jews aren’t connected to the land of Israel. But it was deeply wrong to displace those of other religions who were living there and then declare it “a country without people for a people without a country.” That is the cause of the mess we find ourselves in now.

Glad to hear even “long-time Israel supporters” have a red line. I include Jewish Palestinians in my definition of those who are indigenous to Israel/Palestine, but not Ashkenazi Jews like myself whose culture and heritage is clearly centered in Eastern Europe (language, food, customs, DNA).

Okay, that makes more sense. The constant drone of “Jews are indigenous” is making me hypersensitive to anything that erases the fact that Palestinians (of different religions) are the ones that have been living in the region for generations.

Palestinians are the exact opposite of an “external group!”

The article frustratingly ignores the differential power dynamics here. Israelis have political and $ support of the Western powers & we are steeped in the history of the persecution of the Jews, while Palestinians are occupied and impoverished & the world knows little of their 75-year plight.
