The FGC's relationship with skill rating in two comments. Couldn't have gotten better fuel for a script I have in the pipe.

inb4 people say it's meaningless now, still proud of the achievement.

Made it an objective to get to blue ranks before the reset.

It took a catastrophic fall back to red for me to get my shit together 💀

Damn, NPC is better dressed than me

Measure once, print twice😖. Spent a few weeks designing the cover for the case internals, and only after I started printing I realised I measured the case incorrectly.

Smaller one is correct, but magnet holes went missing due to bad constraints in CAD. Not reprinting that.

Been playing with an HDMI switcher and Unreal's live production features for the stage setup at the monthly. Couldn't stream because of technical issues, but will try to figure it out for next time.

I'll need the NDI license to safeguard against some jank with the UE setup

All packed up and ready to go for the monthly local.

First field test is a success. Literally a 15 second deployment/teardown.

Also the setup definitely scored cool factor points with the attendees.

Think front I/O is a bit too stealthy, will look into 3D printing a colored cap or something.

Next thing I need to tackle is the power bricks brackets. Monitor too power hungry to use pc's usb c port, so need own PSU so need the extension lead. Takes more space than I'd like. Taking the setup to a local for testing. And yes I'll put heat shrink on those terminals.
December 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM
Thanks to the magnets, the standoff holes are perfectly lined up, so I just need to put 4 screws through the case. And the monitor isn't going anywhere. Got some black screws for aesthetics points.
November 30, 2024 at 8:34 PM
Mounting the monitor is a lot easier than it looks like because I was doing it one handed, but once you catch the magnets, it holds itself up.
November 30, 2024 at 8:34 PM
I was told that to overcome shear force due to gravity, magnets total pull force needs to be 5x the weight of the object. Seems true enough. Monitor holds in place, but a small slide will take it off the mating bracket. Perfect. Need longer screws now, back to the waiting room.

Turns out neodymium magnets are not created equal and you need to pay attention to magnet grade if you need specific holding power. Info you often don't get from Amazon/AEx. New ones smaller yet stronger. Also revised bracket shape.
November 28, 2024 at 6:19 PM
Then used a 180 adapter so I can plug the HDMI cable from the PC to the splitter, then plugging to the monitor, and a panel mount HDMI going out the case for capture.

Finding sub 50cm cables kinda hard actually. Waiting on AEx to ship a short, angled barrel jack to USB cable to power the splitter.
November 25, 2024 at 1:47 PM
Once mounted, it looks like the bracket twists a bit, which means that some magnets aren't making proper contact with the splitter, but looks secure enough I'm confident it won't come loose in transit.

Might put some braces at the bottom of the bracket in the next version.
November 25, 2024 at 1:47 PM
Took me a whole week to design a bracket for it, was trying really hard to avoid supports (failed). Was overengineering things until I remembered that the splitter enclosure is metal, so I can just hold it in place with magnets.

Came up with this design.
November 25, 2024 at 1:47 PM
Next I need to mount the HDMI splitter. This first box will be for the stream/stage setup. Using a splitter rather the capture card pass-through so that if something happens on the stream side, it won't interrupt the players. Also keeps the unit self-contained.
November 25, 2024 at 1:47 PM
Printed brackets for the mini PC which use the screw holes for the VESA mount, making sure to leave the air intake unobstructed, and secured them to the standoffs.

(Had to make it in two pieces because that's larger than my printer's build volume).

Looks solid enough.
November 22, 2024 at 1:22 PM
Yeah that's not going anywhere.
November 22, 2024 at 11:37 AM
So I printed some standoffs that fit the indents and put some threaded inserts in. Research told me that gluing stuff to polypropylene is tricky, so I got some Loctite "all plastics" glue, seemed easier to work with than epoxy.
November 22, 2024 at 11:12 AM
In the meantime, looking at mounting the rest inside the case. Don't want to drill holes in the bottom of the case for a layout that might change.

Name brand cases usually have mounting points, mine doesn't. But it does have those indents around the outside, around the outside, around the outside.
November 22, 2024 at 11:12 AM
Coz I only have 2 hands, wanted magnets to auto align both sides of the bracket.

I came up with this design, where the bottom piece is screwed into the monitor with M4 standoffs, and screws would go through the lid, the top piece and into the standoffs.
November 21, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Looked at quick release mounts for easier serviceability. The issue require access to the back of the monitor and/or enough space to slide the monitor out. I have neither in the lid.
And when I got the plastic mount I thought "man I could print this..."
So I bought a 3D printer...
November 21, 2024 at 8:06 PM
I got a noname hard case from AliExpress and started prototyping, putting panel mount USB/aux ports for P1/P2 at the front, and looking to have, power, LAN and HDMI at the back, and the monitor in the lid, so I would just have to plug a C13 open the case, flick a switch and be good to go.
November 19, 2024 at 5:04 PM
A checklist can fix the latter, but not the former.

I saw the 3S setups at EVO, where everything was inside a rackmount box, with all player-facing IO easily accessible.

I thought "hey, would be cool to do the same with my locals setups? So I started looking into putting my setups in a box...
