134 Comments Add a comment... = Sort by @33elk 7 minutes ago (edited) here's my honest to god thought out reason why I enjoy hybrid mana changing after this stream: i think there's a very logical argument to be made for hybrid that makes it pretty clean hybrid mana is meant for either color to use the card easily because the card is on theme for both of the colors, therefore it should be available equally to both those colors even absent of the other because the design is meant for both the colors. this cuts out phyrexian mana because the designs while as easily castable in any color isn't designed with ACTUALLY being another color in mind, same goes for pacts and flip cards like avacyn. Dismember is a black identity card even though any color can cast it the issue isn't the castablity, its the design intent of the card itself and where it should be allowed to be used Avacyn's flip side is a red design with a red identity, yes it can be cast by a mono white deck, but the design inherently still gives red, whereas something like shadow of doubt was designed with both blue and black in mind "that's arbitrary" yea so are all the other rules like offcolor fetches working, urborg working, and stuff the rules are all made up this is a game. "its confusing to have color mean one thing during deckbuilding and a different thing during gameplay" yea until you realize devoid exists, color identity is already divorced from color. Same thing goes for something like kenessos priest of thassa, while building that deck he's simic but in game he's not getting buffed for being green off sylvan anthem. "this is undermining color identity, a core part of the commander format" i see a lot of people going in for a penny in for a pound about this and it just makes no sense to slippery slope it "just remove color identity then" isn't a logical argument here because if anything this change is MAKING COLOR IDENTITY MORE CLEAR. anyway that's all, ciao. Had fun at the prerelease for Tarkir Dragonstorm Friday. Got some cool cards. Not good in a limited environment but will go nicely in my next Dragon commander deck.
