You’re too tired to follow them, and besides, eavesdropping is rude. So instead you fall asleep in a bush. Which may sound uncomfortable. The next morning! Baloo wakes you up, his face and voice somber. He says he has something important to tell you: he’s going to take you to the human village. Oh no! You thought you’d finally be able to stay in the jungle. Bagheera must have convinced him. Or maybe he blackmailed Baloo. That must have been what they were talking about last night. You refuse to go to the village. You run off, saying you can make it on your own. You may shout something about showing them all, but maybe you don’t. Emotions run high. Eventually emotions run low as you mope through the jungle alone. Nobody actually seems to want you in the jungle, they either want you to leave or just want something from you. Nobody wants you just for you. With a tired sigh—you walked for a while and the air is thickly sweet around here—you sit at the base of a tree to consider your options. Maybe you should go to the village, at least there you might be accepted. It’s no fun being where nobody wants you. On the other hand, if you strike out on your own in the jungle and prove you’re cool you’ll get lots of new friends who will want you to hang around! These ruminations are interrupted as something soft and cool wraps under your legs and around your waist. Before you realize it a scaly seat lifts you up the tree, too high to jump off without hurting yourself. The seat lifts you above the leaves and to a branch where you jump back in surprise. There’s a human up here! Except—she’s not? She looks human, with sparkling eyes and wavy long hair down her bare arms, but her smooth human skin changes past her waist to the scales of a thick snake tail, the pattern matching that around your waist. She smiles at you, at first hungrily like she could eat you up, but then pityingly like you’re a wayward soul. But hey, what is she, anyway? This lady with the lower half (half? Far more than half) of a snake leans close to you, and you lean back, though not nearly as much as she leans forward. You think the jungle heat is increasing until you realize that’s you—you’re blushing like a rose, between this beauty so close and—her scaly tail around your . . . You pull her tail off you and turn away. She giggles and slides around to keep herself in your sight. “I don’t mean to be intrusive, Human,” she says, “but you looked so lonely and crestfallen down there.” She gives you another smile—not hungry, not pitying, just kind—and softly says, “I thought maybe you could use some company.” Her tail slides around your shoulders. It’s gentle and alluring, but you push it off and turn away with a huff. “Sorry, but I just want to be alone right now.” You hop off her tail onto the branch. “Aw, now . . .” The lamia slides around you again. “Come on. Let me look at you.” Your eyes widen from a look at the lamia’s eyes. She’s looking intently at you, her eyes boring into yours, loops of color sparkling from her eyes. It’s really quite pretty . . . beautiful . . . enrapturing. Do you let her look at you with those swirling eyes? -20a Yes . . . -20b No! You let the lamia look at you with her hypnotic eyes, the colors sweeping outward like you’re falling through a tunnel. They give you tunnel vision, only the lamia in focus with everything else blurred by colors, and she becomes prettier by the moment. Your head spins and, dizzy, you slip backwards and sit on the loop of the lamia’s tail, which then slides back around your waist. She holds your arms down as her tail circles higher, squeezing around your stomach and forearms. Below you her tail becomes thicker, your cushioned, scaly seat so wide around your legs stick up. “It feels so good when I look into your eyes, doesn’t it?” the lamia says. “Let my beautiful eyes soothe your troubled mind.” You give a whimpering, breathy, deep sigh as her tail winds its way up your chest, her coils becoming ever thicker. Your eyes droop and your lips twitch into a wobbly smile, and the lamia leans closer, giving you a sad smile and speaking in a voice dripping with love and concern. “Oh, you’ve been so lost, haven’t you?” She holds your face and shakes her head. “You haven’t had any idea what to do. You’ve never had a guide, someone to help you and lead you. Someone to show you the way to true happiness.” You can’t contest her words, as you find it difficult to remember anyone who helped you before the lamia. You’re finding it increasingly difficult to remember anything before the lamia. Her face brightens to a beaming smile, and your wobbly smile expands to match hers as she cups your chin in her tail, your warm blush offset by her cool scales. “Well, I’ll be your guide, Human,” the lamia says. “I’ll be your leader, your ruler, your mistress.” Her thick coils lean you back and she wraps around your neck, squeezing tight. Your face stretches to a rigid smile with wide eyes as your mind sinks into her loving, controlling spell as much as you sink into her caressing coils, no more of those useless thoughts to trouble you and distract you from your lovely lamia leader. You have no desire to think on your own; you have no desire that is not the lamia’s. Your mind is completely encased in a hypnotic shell. Dang, if only, maybe, you’d encountered a lamia before when you were still with one of your guardians, then you’d have known more about their tricks and had been able to get away. Nah, this is better. But if you’re interested in other timelines, there’s many to be found. What else could happen?

I was thinking about you and thought I’d come visit!” “But,” you say, “wait, I always lock–” You realize your window is open. “Did you break into my house?” “Weeeell, I didn’t want to disturb you,” she said. “I just wanted to come in and ssssstare at you, maybe?” “Okay.” You sigh. “Do you think maybe you’re getting a little obsessed?” She leaned forward with narrowed eyes. “Hmph. Well how about…” She smiled and opened her eyes wide as they swirled with colors that tickle your brain with pulling warmth. “You become obsessed with me too!” As you fall into her stare she hugs her arms around you and wraps her tail over you. “We can become obsessed with each other and just stare into each other’s eyes until there’s nothing we can think about but each otherrrrrr.” She kisses your face as her spell soaks in. Obsession takes hold. She’s all you can think about. She’s all you want to think about, all you want to see… kiss kiss kiss
