Piggybacking on what you've taught us, Roberts' parents ran an Actors and Writers Workshop in Atlanta. Coretta Scott King called to ask if her kids could attend since they were having trouble fitting in and her mom said "sure come on over". They became friends and helped in the tough times.

IIRC, law states the flags will be at half staff for thirty (30) days after the President's death. So we'll still be a country in mourning on Inauguration Day.
