Taken earlier this week: a mosaic of images of the Rosette Nebula, with open star cluster NGC 2244 (at center). The nebula is located about 5,200 light years from Earth in the direction of the constellation of Monoceros, the Unicorn. 🔭
A telescopic image of a cloud of gas. The cloud somewhat resembles a smashed doughnut as it is irregular in shape but has a hollow core with a cluster of stars in it. The nebula shows a variety of colors including shades of red and blue with thin, irregular areas of dark dust.

One of the Universe’s prettiest mysteries — Hoag’s Object, a ring galaxy around 600 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens.
