My post ran in New York magazine! What a nice surprise. Thanks to frfr New Yorker Jessica Ziegler for spotting this.

It was good to have you, Jules Feiffer.

Fuckin' A, Google Maps.

Can confirm. And furthermore, we had to put this back in place after D'Onofrio crashed the New York State pavilion into it.

Lot of that goin' around, apparently! And I get to reuse your alt tag verbatim.

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" was on TCM Saturday night. At one point, someone points to the sky and asks Francois Truffaut's character "What is that?" Below is his response, which I never caught before now. That's the movie right there, Richard Dreyfuss' coked-up whinging notwithstanding.

This is what the Las Vegas Formula 1 race looked like from the stands last year. It's actually pretty boring! Swarm of expensive bees flying by every 8 minutes of so. You can't really tell who's winning unless you're a full F1 stan. Don't pay good money to attend; watch it on TV instead. Or don't!

The City of Las Vegas loves to make "districts." See also: the Arts District, the Gateway District and Brewery Row. (Those are all pretty much the same neighborhood, BTW.) But they're less keen on at keeping existing neighborhoods from slipping into ruin.

FWIW, I like Area15. It's touristy, but fun

#2. Our half-dog-half-weasel, Gigi, soundly sleeping on top of an arm I probably didn't need for anything useful, right?

(She's a Chihuahua mix, a total chonk and a little bit of a diva. I love her awfully.)

I've been told that amidst bouts of depression like this one, it's a swell idea to take stock of the things that bring you joy, even if they're minor.

#1: Las Vegas' Temu Space Needle, the Strat Tower, silhouetted against fluffy clouds. You don't see that. You might still see 'em in the desert.

Posting a photo here so I can work on my alt tags. They're a little wordy, but I'm a little wordy, so y'know. This was taken at an LCD Soundsystem show in LA, pre-disaster

I'm in an LA rental right now so all I've got is a tempranillo from Cost Plus. Also edibles and fucking Xanax if things get heavy. See you on the other side, brother.

John Waters at the Las Vegas Book Festival. In the past year I've enjoyed a healthy helping of his schtick: a live show, a phone interview, a tour of his museum exhibit (twice!), this book event. It's been lovely, truly. But now I would kinda sorta like for Waters to, I dunno, MAKE ANOTHER MOVIE

Standing room only for John Waters at the Las Vegas Book Festival. Thank heavens

A statement has been prepared for me by machine intelligence:

"Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #78,786!"

That's fun.

Mine was center-top. Such a cool, audacious, expensive idea. Vinyl records used to be so much fun. (Song-for-song, tho, this particular Led Zeppelin album is kind of a stinker. I can listen to "In The Evening," "Fool in the Rain," "All My Love" -- that's about it.) Link to article in comments below.

Alright, let's see how I do. Predictions are not endorsements, except for Wes Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki, "Poor Things," "Past Lives" and "Godzilla Minus One." In fact, I hope "Godzilla" is a write-in winner in every category where "Oppenheimer" is favored

This is from an F1 story in the NYT. Mark Abramson took the photo, which has a whole lot of "this will be the last thing you see" about it

I've seen both the U2 show and Darren Aronofsky film* at Las Vegas' new Sphere. AMA.

*I kinda hated the Aronofsky film. It's spectacular and also corny as hell
