The University of Louisville's program was cut in 1980 after the head coach resigned - the team that year beat Kentucky to win the state championships and qualified to regionals.

Western Kentucky University also competed in the 70s and 80s. The 1980 team was coached 5th year senior Pam Moss who was asked to fill in by the athletic director after the previous coach left. They placed 4th at 1980 state championships.

Eastern Kentucky University competed in the 70s and early 80s - the 1981 team placed 2nd at Kentucky state championships, while Rhonda Wilkerson qualified to NCAA nationals.

Lisa Panzironi with an orange in 1992. Lisa placed 12th at 1988 Olympic Trials, and went on to be a 2 time All-American at Florida.

Pam Titus in 1991 was the first NCAA gymnast to receive a perfect 10 on floor. Pam was a 3 time All-American from New York.

Lana Marty in 1983 in a sunburst leotard. Lana was an All-American on the vault.

Maria Anz in 1984 - Maria was Florida's first individual NCAA champion. She gave up her last year of eligibility to act in American Anthem.

Smith College in Northampton competed for a few years in the late 70s and early 80s. The team for 1982 had only 5 gymnasts competing, which was not uncommon during this era of college gymnastics.

The University of Massachusetts competed in gymnastics until 2002. The 1986 team placed 6th at ECACs and 5th at Atlantic-10 Championships.

Boston State College competed from the late 70s until 1982, when the college merged with University of Massachusetts at Boston.

The Cal State Fullerton gymnastics team was one of the most recent teams to be cut. This is the 1984 team that placed 3rd at NCAA nationals - they qualified to NCAAs 7 times in total. The team was cut in 2011.

Today we have some former NCAA gymnastics teams from California - The University of Southern California team from 1985, featuring 1980 Olympic team member Luci Collins - recognised by USAG as the first black gymnast to make an Olympic team for the USA.

The College of William and Mary still has a gymnastics team - they are one of the oldest college teams competing - here they are in 1966.

Longwood College gymnastics team in 1981. The team placed second at Virginia state college championships and qualified 3 gymnasts to AIAW division II nationals.

As we gear up for 2025 NCAA gymnastics season, I thought I'd share some of the former teams - starting with Texas - University of Texas at Austin gymnastics team returned in 1980 after missing two years of competition due to lack of funds - the team was able to offer two scholarships this season.
