He compared a principled position based on evidence and historical precedent to the Tea Party. That’s not inattention to public opinion, and the public opinion Silver cares about is the one that reflects his own opinions, which seem to lack maturity.

Just because they are able to build the pipeline, thereby silencing Alberta’s beef with Ottawa, doesn’t make it economically viable. Alberta oil is expensive. Will anyone want to build it in a world where oil consumption is flat?

So everyone is just supposed to roll over for the Americans who have promised us 90 percent of a plane and a plan to make us the 51st state. There’s a great deal of Canadian geography for which the Grypen is more suited.

Implementing the Leahy report to manage /reduce clear cutting would help, and fewer golf courses. The moss we see in our forests, of which we have an abundance, holds an enormous amount of water, but they could have done that years ago.
