2025 James agrees with you but cast your mind back to 2014. ES6 wasn't a thing, JavaScript as a language had been stagnant for 10+ years. We were craving some syntactic sugar and coffeescript delivered, especially for me as our company had just moved to RoR a year prior.

But don't you love ruby? I guess coffeescript is missing all the nice iterators, and blocks, and the stdlib and everything that makes ruby nice. Wait, why did I use it again?
