That’s the only way system level change occurs in a market driven system and unfortunately to achieve that change Government has to target spending at the bulk of households: Working and Middle class else battery installations would continue to skew towards the wealthy.

So as my last name is Mid take: 5–10% of household demand off-grid in 5 years, while decentralised daytime solar floods the grid meaning households save and businesses and those who can’t uptake sponge that available energy reducing overheads.

Also from an equity point of view early adopters under the cheaper home batteries scheme are likely paying more per kWh even after the rebate than slower adopters will in 3 years time due to the effects of crowding in.

Bit of a stretch given Solar and Battery uptake is higher in the price sensitive/energy intensive working class, regional and mortgage belts. It’s closer to 0.57% and the schemes been alive for less than 3 months.

Broadening the GST to include everything and then raising and indexing the TFT to the minimum wage is a better solution. It positions the TFT as the control rod for the rest of the brackets, removes brackets creep and does away with smooth brain neoliberal “vote tax cuts”.
