MOSAIC team member Isabella Nouvelot giving part of the lecture on science communication and social media. She presents the part where we re-imagine the metaphor that academics often use- "bridging the gap" between academia and the public to describe the purpose of science communication. We argue that just because we build a bridge, it doesn't mean people will cross it. We have to be more pro-active, cross the bridge ourselves, and act in that space. MOSAIC team member Davide Mitrotta giving part of the lecture on science communication and social media. He covers our section on "convincing your audience to stay" By using humor, emotion, and storytelling in your presentation of scientific information and procedures. MOSAIC team member Grace Alonzo giving part of the lecture on science communication and social media. She opened the lecture by calling attention to the current crisis of trust between science and society. She shows a series of news headlines about the slashing of budgets for higher education and research both in the Netherlands and the U.S. - and points out that people did vote for this- meaning they at best think science is a waste of public funds, or at worst think that there is a manipulative agenda behind all academic research.
