I have so been waiting for this one. Virtually every New Zealander at the time was affected by this. I was working for Air NZ's Senior Training Captain at the time, the Captain's family lived just a few streets away and a close friend was on McMahon's legal staff. It a dark moment in NZ's story.

Which is well and good. But given the Dems are polling lower than the GOP right now - one can only conclude fascism is what Americans want right now.

While all this is true - I believe Trump is at base an FSB psy-op. Not in any direct obvious way, but nonetheless an intentional operation to dismantle the moral confidence of the American people. Look to who is benefitting from this sick circus.

The core problem is that COVID was politicised right from the outset - and remains so. As long as it remains political no trusted science will be possible.

As an ordinary person I know that if I were appointed SecDef I would lack experience and would terribly at the job. But not in any possible universe would I set up an unsecure link in the office like this. At this level the stupidity is indistinguishable from malice.

I'd guess so far there is no direct technical connection between these incidents and anything Trump has done - but in political terms you cannot have this surge of accidents happening while at the same time cutting the Agency responsible for reacting to them.
