The best of this year’s carrots.
A collection of twisty, multi-pronged carrots arrayed on a green counter. Some of them look a little…inappropriate, what with their multiple appendages poking out and leggy bits twisting around each other.

I try to make friends with ravens. This one brought me several foil bits, a golf ball, and an empty ketchup packet.

In recognition of Canada Day, please enjoy more slightly fuzzy photos of Northern orchids!
White orchid flower with small pink spots, on a stalk with several additional buds. Background is boreal bog plants and moss. Short green stalk with several long, greenish orchid flowers in bloom and one just starting to bloom at the top. Two short leaves face each other on either side of the stalk, about halfway up. Background is boreal bog grass/sedge and various short leafy plants. Multiple stalks with multiple small, greenish-white orchid flowers on each. Base is multiple elongated, pointed leaves about half the stalks’ length, but growing mostly to the sides. Background is moss, cranberry, yarrow, and various other boreal plants and small trees.

My first spotting of the sparrow’s egg lady’s slipper orchid!
White, roundish orchid flowers just starting to bloom alongside dried and brown seed pods. Both are on medium stalks emerging from base of medium/green, somewhat pointed leaves that are about 3/4 the length of the stalks. Background is blurry, but is damp boreal forest ground and low bushes, including moss, wintergreen, and willow.

One of my favourite places in Vancouver, simply because it persists.
Front, main-floor entry to the Kingsgate Mall, a small, 1 1/2-story urban mall with parking lot in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver, BC. The front has a sign reading “Kingsgate Mall” and another reading “Visit us at shoppersdrugmart.ca”. A black pickup is parked to the right of the entrance.
