One has to wonder how many times the party leadership have to spit in John McDonnell's face before he'll stop writing strongly worded letters on the matter and do something.

The politicians continue to be insanely daft. If a coded language the kids are allegedly using has made its way into a netflix series, they stopped using that like five years ago.

Also, the program is for ADULTS to understand what is happening to their kids. The kids already understand it.

I don't have any evidence for this basis. It's just an instinct.

Stink sticks to the walls of Parliament like black mould, infecting the air. We cannot rely on individuals to be pure enough of integrity and character; we must assume that no one is incorruptible, and design a system that makes corruption impossible.

MPs should be paid so that those who aren't independently wealthy can afford to be MPs - NOT so being an MP can make them independently wealthy.

I personally would also make mandatory reselections the law for all parties. All MPs must be reselected by their local members to stand for their party.

Being a Member of Parliament, having the opportunity to serve your community, is a PRIVILEGE in and of itself. It is an honour.

I do not care if an MPs salary on the median wage would not be competitive with the market.

- Travel expenses for anything that isn't explicitly Parliamentary business to be excluded. Travel between London and constituency permitted - no first class unless on the rare occasion it's cheaper than standard.
March 20, 2025 at 11:17 PM
- Expenses to be limited solely to staff pay, travel expenses (if MP seat is outside of London), rent for accommodation in London (again only for MPs outside of London), and rent for constituency office. No food, no pints of milk and biscuits for the constituency office.

- Lobbying by any organisation that isn't a non-profit banned.

- MPs banned from accepting gifts from non-constituents and the monetary value of such gifts must be capped.

And this is the end result of what happens when a LABOUR PARTY refuses to talk about class. It becomes about empty gesture politics whilst continuing or even worsening the status quo.
March 20, 2025 at 10:53 PM
This party antidemocratically screwed Mish Rahman and Lauren Townsend so we could get Torsten Bell and his mortgage and Luke Akehurst and his endless questions about the UK's defensive capabilities

Far from mobilising the diverse working classes, Labour today is an instrument for pacifying them.

The rule changes, collapse in membership and neurotic control exercised by the NEC over selections suggest there is absolutely no way back for anything to the left of David Cameron coming to prominence in the party again.
March 20, 2025 at 10:51 PM
The Labour Party has - starting with Kinnock and completing with Starmer naturally with Corbyn as the momentary stumble in that process - been utterly, completely captured by the interests of capital. Hedge funds, private equity, private healthcare. The affiliated unions are defanged.
March 20, 2025 at 10:51 PM
I don't think I will ever not be angry at the people inside the party who worked relentlessly to destroy the Corbyn project...for this. They did all this, just so they could slash disability social security.

In Britain at least, I'm struggling to see reasons to be optimistic.

It's like they have skipped over the parts of Blair's first government where he did the minimum wage, civil partnerships etc, and gone straight to post-Iraq contempt.
