As a (substantial) bonus, my wife and I got to visit the famed city of Saragossa, full of traces of its Roman, Muslim and Aragonese history 😍

Funnily enough, we were no less than four French designers in attendance, with such luminaries as Walter Vejdovsky, Philippe Hardy and Philippe Thibault, which was the opportunity for great conversations and sharing of ideas!

Also got to spend time with @snafustore.bsky.social Oscar who, besides his sterling French, is a fantastic person, with whom I share much of my design philosophy. And I even got gifted a copy of their highly acclaimed and very intriguing Operation Bøllebank, signed by the designer @6xwa.bsky.social!

At the invitation of the organization team (which includes one of my star beta testers, @davidyllanes.bsky.social, I got to present my new game @gmtgames.bsky.social Hubris - Twilight of the Hellenistic World, which was a ton of fun for the players and myself!

Back home tired but delighted after a wonderful 4-days trip to Zaragoza to attend the top notch Batalladores 2025 convention masterfully organized by @clubbatallador.bsky.social
So impressed, and not a little jealous, by the super dynamic ConSim community in Spain.

Arrivage du jour: back to games, and two beautiful games it is! Mark McLaughlin’s 7th edition of War and Peace, and @fredserval.bsky.social A Gest of Robin Hood @gmtgames.bsky.social 2nd printing

Arrivage du jour… Books, not games, though some, if not all of them will be as much pleasure as study…

With pictures…

Obviously, I came back with a decent haul of games, with a number of games from @vucasimulations.bsky.social who were present with Patrick Gebhardt and a couple others, as well as Arnaud’s La Guerre de Cent Ans (The Hundred Years’ War), a very interesting derivation of the Birth of America system
July 6, 2025 at 10:38 PM
But the highlight of these 4 days was undoubtedly having long conversations with Mark Simonitch, @abrgll.bsky.social and Arnaud de Peretti talking about everything from game design, the current world situation to the use of wargames in the military, national biases, or the state of the hobby

Hannibal (also by Mark Simonitch), Vercingetorixs, John Company 2nd ed, and a few others on other days, including a couple intriguing @vucasimulations.bsky.social protos (no pics, sorry)
July 6, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Europa Universalis: The Price of Power, Mare Nostrum, Great War Commander, Brandywine
July 6, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Many great games and appealing protos being played as usual, in a wonderful friendly atmosphere: Arnaud De Perreti’s Hundred Years War, VUCA’s New Cold War, Florian Dumont’s Aion, Mark Simonitch’s Successors

Back from 4 great days at Asynconv in Tours, where I demoed my advance copy of @gmtgames.bsky.social Hubris and live tested my upcoming prequel expansion for it (250-221 BCE)
Overwhelmingly positive feedback on the quality of the final product, and great time for both new & experienced players!

Seven years today that I am, at long last, fully and openly myself. Seven extraordinary years bracketed by the releases of my first game, Pendragon, in Dec 2017, and that of my second, Hubris, both thanks to the great folk at @gmtgames.bsky.social
Between evolution, flourishing and continuity… 😊

A very special « Arrivage du jour » today, with my advance copy of my very own Hubris - Twilight of the Hellenistic World by @gmtgames.bsky.social !
And if I may say so myself, it is simply stunning! 🤩

As Lilith had funded a resurgence of Goblin attacks before her fall, it took another year (the 5th of the war) to eliminate Finger Cutter and the last Goblin bands, finally bringing the war to its close, with a complete victory of the Free Peoples. May this be an omen!
March 9, 2025 at 12:11 AM
The 4th year of the war has been a series of disasters for Lilith and her allies: Dwelfenfeld was retaken in the spring, and Lilith banned to Meiji by Vesta, leading to the fall of the Tower of the Moon in the summer. The last Orcish bastion fell soon after, leading to the collapse of both
March 9, 2025 at 12:07 AM
Lilith has managed to enslave some Valkyries but is now besieged in the Tower of the Moon, while Kegash is gathering the last Orc remnants to defend their last castle at Port Gorod, with allied units making all speed to finish the war in the NorthEast
March 3, 2025 at 12:01 AM
In the North, the last Goblins, surviving on Lilith’s dwindling subsidies, are watching the Dwarven hosts prepare the assault on Dwelfholm…
And the ring is closing on the Tower of the Moon…
March 2, 2025 at 11:55 PM
The war’s tipping point? The Orcs are taking massive losses in the South, and the AotN is in full retreat, while the waves of Goblins have smashed themselves futilely against Barzirak before being swept away by the furious Dwarven counterattacks.
March 2, 2025 at 11:47 PM
The Imperials and the Dwarves have successfully counterattacked the Orcs, while the Northmen have blunted the Army of the Night’s offensive. Meanwhile a massive showdown is building up between the last Dwarves and the Goblins in the North
