I build pipe organs in the Los Angeles area. One of the caretakers of the french fry organ at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Enthusiastic about bourbon, dogs, neutrons and more. Views my own etc. He/Him
Somewhere deep in the Sierra there are still little bits of gold to be found.

My wife was curious, so we are watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a movie I have not seen in about 25 years. This is a bad movie, but when this locomotive came onscreen I made what my wife is describing as “autism noise”

It’s also worth noting that, while incredibly stupid, this is pretty minor - in 1949 the building had to be completely gutted and rebuilt over the course of four years because it was about to collapse. I’m happy people are radicalized but it’s not even the same building.

Organ pipes contaminated by the Palisades fire. Every single pipe has to be bagged and sealed for safe storage until they can be decontaminated at a later date. Some pipes with long toes (for display in the organ’s case) must be stored vertically to prevent the thin, soft metal from deforming.

Miraculously, through what I can only describe as an act of divine mercy, I have managed to catch (and release) many more trout. Nothing large but they’re in there.

After growing up in Michigan, Southern California is a hard place to catch wild trout. I am
pleased to
report that, after some research and a three hour drive, I successfully captured and promptly released one (1) wild rainbow trout. Immensely satisfying.

I built planters. My wife saw the first one and said that it looked like a cow. Arts and crafts occurred.

December 25, 2024 at 6:59 PM
Athena has had a rough go of it this Advent - she’s 14 and she suddenly developed a case of doggy vertigo last week, which has been very hard for her. Nevertheless, she is the best of dogs, and I’m so glad I could be with her today.

Athena update: She is much better, but her head is permanently tilted like so

Our elderly dog, Athena, has developed a sudden case of vertigo. She basically can’t walk and anytime she tries she empties her stomach. She has to be touched at all times to help her feel grounded. Consequently, I’m not allowed to leave - possibly forever. Poor girl

My grandma passed last night. She was 96. When I was a kid she would babysit us every Wednesday night, and when I was in undergrad I would clean her house. A good Catholic, she had 9 kids. Grandpa died shortly after I was born and she’d been alone for 32 years.

It took all day, but I have successfully silenced my HVAC system and added a register in the master bedroom. Almost every duct is new. We’ve achieved a full 10db reduction in ambient noise and it’s about four degrees cooler in here. Sometimes the chores are worth it!
