Raúl started working as an organ grinder ten years ago for lack of a better job. Like him, there are another 350 organ grinders in Mexico City who are part of a union and another 150 who are called “fake organ grinders” or who do not are part of formal union.

Salma and Astrid, originally from Mexico City and friends since six years ago, are part of the 200,000 people who enjoyed the well-known nocturnal paseo in the city’s downtown.

Paola has come to dance on Sunday nights at Alameda Central Park in Mexico City for the last two years. Her passion for dancing has allowed her to meet friends and strangers, and recharge energy for the week ahead.

Carolina and Adriana inherited the cart that for two generations has helped them to sell corn tamales and fruit in downtown Mexico City. Almost 20 percent of the informal food vendors in the Mexican capital are like Carolina and Adriana's.
