Emancipation Day felt like a small but important step towards that dream. The system never feels more than a few steps behind me, always a threat, but I’m holding these moments of freedom and joy close and hoping they will be more frequent, last longer, and include more people. 4

Whilst the carceral mental health system makes liberation a far flung dream, I’m dedicated to creating pockets of emancipation, while working towards breaking down the barriers that keep us constrained. 3/4

The other week, I celebrated “Emancipation Day” to mark two years out of hospital and dream of emancipatory and liberatory futures. I tore up the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act and turned it into a piñata which we soon smashed. 2/4
