Biodiversity 🐛 ZeroPollution 💧 Deforestation 🪵
This Action Plan has been co-produced by the #PolinizAÇÃO project, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) and the Ministry of Environment and Energy involving more than 130 representatives from various sectors. www.pollinet.pt/poliniza%C3%...

It is based on 3 axes:

🔬 Axis 1: Science at the center of knowledge and quantification of pollinator services.

🪲 Axis 2: Natural, agricultural, forest and urban landscapes that benefit pollinators.

🙋‍♀️ Axis 3: Social participation including awareness, education, monitoring and behavioural change.

Some conclusions are:
✅ Appointing government representatives as contact points between citizens and authorities.
✅ Developing a clear roadmap for citizen engagement, including formal and regular dialogue.
✅ Establishing national policies that guarantee annual funding, expertise, and resources.

The second part focuses on the results of a workshop held in Sandavágur (Faroe Islands) in 2024, which brough together government officials, resource managers, researchers from the Nordic countries, hunters, farmers, and other citizens.

The report “Strengthened locally based monitoring and management of living resources in the Arctic” describes real-life cases in which the participation of hunters, farmers and fishermen is reshaping the management of natural resources in Norway, Iceland and Greenland.

What is the key for successful participatory science? Two new reports published by the Nordic Council of Ministers present examples of citizen involvement in nature management in the Arctic and set out a concrete framework for strengthening this engagement.

The national park would contain 10% of all Quercus petraea forest in Denmark. This forest type, home to several IUCN-listed species, faces degradation and fragmentation and is now under special protection by the EU Habitat Regulation. #CitizenScience could help inform future management decisions.

New national park proposed for Smålandsfarvandet, #Denmark. Associations, land owners and neighbours are part of the process: mapping areas and species relevant for conservation of natural and cultural sites in four workshops hosted by the Danish Nature Agency, Urland, and University of Copenhagen 🔽

A truly enriching afternoon, reminding us that while frameworks help, transformation depends on grounded relationships, local rhythms, and real-time learning.

Case teams shared insights into how contextual realities shape real progress — where success can mean very different things across different places. We ended with a harvest of ideas: surfacing shared challenges, creative workarounds, and emerging solutions from across our global network.

Not all actors are keen on co-#management — and that’s okay. Like a marriage, it takes alignment, willingness, and trust. That’s where our Needs Assessments come in: not as checklists, but as traffic lights — helping teams sense when to pause, proceed, or pivot.

We explored the tangible work of mobilising citizen and community-led hashtag#actions — and what direct actions look like in practice. Spoiler: it’s rarely linear.

After a high-energy morning of reflection and stock-taking, the second half of Day 1 of the more4nature face-to-face plenary zoomed into the messy middle of environmental compliance action: What’s really happening on the ground in our 20 Pioneer Cases?

This strong start to what promises to be a productive and grounding few days! Stay tuned for more food for thought! 😉

Some early signals from our cases suggest:
🪄 Compliance may exist in areas you didn’t think of yet.
🔎 Authorities might indeed need support for compliance efforts
📉 Not all challenges in the current ECA system merely require more data

👋 Hola Barcelona! TODAY marks the start of the third more4nature in person meeting and we couldn’t have wished for a better place to come together and advance in towards collaborative environmental #compliance assurance! 🌞🌲🏖️ Let’s break it down — thread below 🧵

🌲 Around 80 citizens visited the Ulvshale National Park with the Danish Nature Agency. The ‘Forest Walk’ served to include citizens in the management. 🧠 Citizen knowledge is crucial in detecting species, observing changes in forest composition or suggesting preferred trails & access points. #Denmark

Overall, these workshops highlighted that knowledge sharing, mutual understanding, and collective learning create new opportunities and bring us closer to reversing the decline of #pollinators in #Portugal. Are you involved in similar #conservação initiatives? We read you in the comments!

Together, we identified some pressing issues affecting pollinators in Oeiras and reflected on a common vision and collaborative actions:

🛠️ Non-sustainable construction practices
🥀 Existing green areas covered only with grass.
📢 Difficulties to keep citizens informed and engaged with solutions.
March 19, 2025 at 10:02 AM
Secondly, we recently visited the municipality of #Oeiras to explore challenges and opportunities for pollinator conservation on the ground. Representatives from the city council, #citizenscience initiatives and local inhabitants took part in two inspiring working sessions. #biodiversidade
