What Makes a Film “Morally Offensive”?

Two ex-Catholics ask this question every other week as they tackle the list of films “Condemned” or considered “Morally Offensive” by the Catholic Legion of Decency (RIP) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Might be my #1? It's pretty tight and a great satire. Felt like an instant classic the first time I saw it.

Noice! Yeah my wife and I rewatch several of his films frequently. Still trying to sell her on the nastier Sirk that is Fassbinder.

Great picks so far. Bitter Tears of Petra Van Kant is fantastic. Merchant of Four Seasons is good. Martha is highly underrated and VERY Douglas Sirk if you like that vibe. In a Year with 13 Moons is a deep cut that has aged really well.

Have you seen World on a Wire? It's an outlier in his filmography but it's an early adaptation of Simulacrum 3, which would inspire The Matrix and The 13th floor.
