Ooh, & I had a cool patient last month where the first 6 digits of his NHS number were the six digits of his DOB. And his first number is a 1!

Also, the 10th digit is the check digit which checks the number is valid

There is a pattern (that smarter people than I understand). I notice that 428 starters are your older patients, 3 at the start seems to be Irish patients, 7 at the start is youngsters currently 735 for newborns. I'm a 6 at the start but I came from Scotland whereas English folk my age are 428.
