I'm a day late but yesterday was the 20th anniversary of Supernatural so here's the reference to it I snuck into my book.

“Joyce Maldonado,” Mr. Sterling intones, and I sense an almost imperceptible wiggle from under the sheet next to me. Joyce frees her pinky finger, one long nail lacquered in sparkly pink polish, and snakes it over to my side. “…And Rory Calhoun,” Mr. Sterling finishes. “May their short lives serve as a memory to us all that life is precious and never to be taken for granted, and may they rest in peace.” Joyce overlaps her pinky over my own, with its blunt stubby nail, also polished – but badly – in black. “I’m glad you’re not dead,” she whispers. “I’m glad you’re not dead, too,” I whisper back.   TWO My first day at Choice, I couldn’t help feeling underwhelmed. The district houses its alternative program in a pair of narrow blue-stucco buildings that used to be dorms for the nearby community college. On the side of one of them, someone hung a faded banner that read CHOICE ACADEMY: WHERE YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE. I poled my way inside on my crutches, which I was still learning to use at the time. There was a new student orientation being held in the main room on the lower floor of one of the old dorms, a big orange-carpeted room that smelled faintly of soup and had apparently been converted into some kind of combination lunchroom/auditorium. I was seated in an uncomfortable metal folding chair between a guy with a two-foot double mohawk and a tiny pregnant girl who constantly looked like she was about to throw up.

CAMP LANIER by @sylvesterbarzey.bsky.social - being from (loosely defined) the Atlanta area, I'm well acquainted with Lake Lanier lore (it's even namechecked in TLGOWP). You do not f with that lake. Can't wait to see what this book does with it!

I was too depressed this year to unpack my menorah and light my own candles, even though I usually love Hanukkah. I'm going through some really hard personal stuff on top of the Horrors we're all facing. But tonight my mom sent me this pic of my childhood menorah, which I MADE. Big feelings.
