Not all of our volunteers travel to our sites - our phone support team make appointment reminder calls from home, helping reduce the number of patients who forget to attend appointments.

When regular patient Ali discovered that her grandmother had left £10,000 in her will for Ali to distribute to charities, she knew straight away that she wanted to use the money to support Moorfields.

Our handholding volunteers provide a real, measurable benefit to patients – in statistics compiled by @helpforce.bsky.social, 95% of patients agreed or strongly agreed that the presence of a handholder helped them to feel less anxious.

Our handholding service, which offers emotional support to patients before and during eye procedures, has expanded to Moorfields at Ealing Hospital and Moorfields at Northwick Park.

We're celebrating our volunteers this #InternationalVolunteerDay!

Our 350 volunteers work at Moorfields Eye Hospital sites across London, doing everything from directing and guiding patients to accompanying anxious patients during procedures.
