Dad, adopted Hoosier. I help scientific researchers fund their work.
I was an adjunct for a semester for ~one~ course and it took me weeks of preparation to build a syllabus to my liking, all of which was unpaid. I don’t think that’s well understood by students, let alone the general public. Administrators should know better, of course.

I think the four pillars of a federal Democratic Party platform have to be YIMBYism (especially for housing and renewable/nuclear energy), social safety net repair/strengthening, anti-corruption, and pro-democracy structural reforms.

would have been a worthwhile use of 0.1% of GDP to retain a well-paid rotation of Inverse Jesters to keep him occupied pre-2024

at least Chris Coons won’t be inconvenienced

I was gonna say, he’s gonna stiff the contractors and they’ll bring in some fly by night crew to finish it, and the whole thing will collapse the next time DC has a big storm

yeah, the actions and really just the presence of the state police belies the rhetoric that Illinois is resisting ICE

sucks, man

unfortunately, it's probably only a matter of time before this admin comes for Chicago, so he'll get his opportunity

I think Pritzer can fill this role without the baggage (thus far)

I think it’s more the “have your ID on you at all times to prove your citizenship” presumably to the masked dudes hoping to deport you

it’s bullshit all the way down but you will land on your feet. I’m a decade older than you and your writing has given me hope in a reconstructed America where capable people like you rebuild a country worth a damn

Amazing book, and I appreciated the tempered hope that it offered (of course after a horrific period of global instability and political violence)

I could see continued impacts of climate change (natural disasters and extreme heat, food and other shortages, and refugees increasing demand for social services) lead to an embrace of a kind of eco-fascist platform in the next 10-15 years tbh

a failure of imagination on my part, but in your opinion what kind of voting bloc would support a modern leftist authoritarian? I guess I could see someone running as Huey Long 2.0 with a robust welfare state only for an in-group, but it's hard to imagine that in today's political environment

“Fellas, is it gay to like an intelligent, attractive woman who is similarly passionate about this sport that I love?” but with no hint of irony

Based on that poll, foreign aid is the only thing that a near-majority (49%) supports cutting, so it’s not really prioritizing a few things to do well. Not to mention the foreign aid budget was less than 1% of the federal budget.
