And any effective organizing tradition, such as it is, will have to stress test itself against people who don't share their expected norms or goals (insofar as these can be disentangled)

The internet is not so different from other forms of mass media, perhaps simply more concentrated in its effects. Can't be blamed for a global fascist threat when we did that already a century ago.
