He opens the clinic early, the smell of disinfectant and coffee replacing the scent of hay and frost. The hours there ground him. And when he returns to the ranch later, there’s no longer that strange uncertainty in his chest. The house doesn’t feel borrowed or guarded. It feels settled.

Virginia still isn’t one for long conversations, but he grows accustomed to the silence she carries with her. It no longer feels tense or defensive; it simply becomes another part of the rhythm. He learns that her quiet isn’t rejection, it’s just the way she occupies the world.

Rowan changes too, though he doesn’t notice it happening. The careful way he used to move around the house gradually disappears. He stops tiptoeing through his own space. The ranch sounds like a lived-in place again.

The phrase '𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦' dissolves somewhere along the way, not replaced by I want to stay, but simply forgotten; like a door she once kept open that has quietly swung shut on its own.

Weeks have slipped by without announcement. The days no longer feel counted or temporary. Her jacket hangs on the same hook every evening without her noticing; her mug finds the same corner of the counter each morning.
February 19, 2026 at 4:11 PM
Mornings begin to look different. Virginia moves slowly through each stretch, each breath measured, deliberate, as if the world has finally given her permission to take up space. The cold air curls around her skin, but she doesn’t flinch.

Don’t mind me, I’m out here changing names everywhere. It’s just one of those days. Still Moonie, though. Always ✨

Meanwhile… my babies pregnant!! 👀🤰

I was fully ready to start a serious, dramatic, carefully-planned legacy and then my game decided to marry Vlad to Duke Tybalt Capp.

So yeah. We’re not doing “serious” anymore; we’re doing chaotic, laid-back fun legacy gameplay now ✨

This is such a beautiful idea, and of course I had to choose my favorite couple, written by @pamsimmer.bsky.social ♥️ She’s the reason I fell in love with Malcolm, and the story he shares with Cassie is one I’ll carry with me for a long time.

“No one did. Not really. No women, I mean. Aside from my mom and my sisters.”

“Why?”

He exhales, a quiet, almost sheepish sound. “Because some part of me kept thinking Sybil might come back one day. And I didn’t want the place that felt like home to belong to anyone else.”
February 13, 2026 at 9:19 PM
“Only once,” he says, and there’s a flicker of embarrassment in his expression. “The first time we met. I was passed out on the floor, so I wasn’t exactly in a position to stop her.”

“Why couldn’t she go in?”
February 13, 2026 at 9:15 PM
“And then you show up and suddenly you’re walking around like you belong there. I guess she wanted to see for herself why you could be there and she couldn’t.”

Virginia’s brow furrows. “She’s never been inside?”
February 13, 2026 at 9:07 PM
“Once,” he admits. “When Selene was here.”

“That was months ago.”

Rowan lifts one shoulder in a small shrug. “It’s a small town. People talk. She probably heard there was someone staying at the ranch.” He huffs a breath. “I’ve always been… territorial about that place.“
February 13, 2026 at 8:57 PM
“I didn’t mean to overhear,” Virginia says, voice lower now, almost careful, as if the confession itself might be intrusive.

Rowan shakes his head once. “You don’t have to apologize for that.”

She hesitates, then forces the question out anyway. “Have you… seen her since I’ve been here?”
February 13, 2026 at 8:50 PM
“And she fell in love with you,” Virginia murmurs, almost to herself.

“Yeah...” He runs a hand through his hair, the admission sitting heavier than the rest. “I should’ve ended it sooner. I knew she was starting to feel more than I was willing to give back.”
February 13, 2026 at 8:42 PM
He exhales slowly. “For a while I handled things badly. Slept around. Tried to convince myself that was moving on.” A humorless huff escapes him. “Then people started talking, and suddenly I was this… town legend I never asked to be. I hated it. So I stopped. Or tried to. I just… kept seeing Vega.”
February 13, 2026 at 8:34 PM
“I got here… and I was a mess,” Rowan continues, voice steadier now that he’s looking at the floor instead of her. “A real one. Vega was the first person I met in town. She’s the one who helped me get back on my feet, whether she meant to or not.”
February 13, 2026 at 8:27 PM
A crooked smile flickers and fades. “I was ready to drop everything for her. My career, my plans, just trade them in like they didn’t matter. But she was smarter than me. She saw where I was heading before I did and ended things before I could make a decision I would’ve regretted forever.”
February 13, 2026 at 8:18 PM
He lets out a small, almost embarrassed breath. “We met in high school. Grew up side by side. Then college. Years of assuming the future was already decided for us. I was so sure we’d spend our whole lives together that I stopped asking myself what I actually wanted.”
February 13, 2026 at 8:10 PM
“I wasn’t in a good place when I got here,” Rowan offers, voice quieter than usual. “I always knew I wanted to be a vet. That part never changed. But for a long time, what I thought I wanted most… Was her. Sybil. My ex.”

Virginia doesn’t speak; she just watches him, waiting.
February 13, 2026 at 8:00 PM
“I’m not,” she insists.

“Alright.”

He doesn’t push. He simply nods once and stays where he is, giving her the kind of quiet acceptance that feels almost unbearable, because it leaves the truth sitting between them, and entirely her responsibility to deny.
February 13, 2026 at 7:49 PM
He drags a hand over his jaw, searching for the right words and finding none that feel safe enough. “Are you… are you really upset because of that?”

“I’m not upset.”

Rowan studies her for a moment, not challenging the statement, just… looking.
February 13, 2026 at 7:40 PM
The accusation slices through the air and Rowan actually blinks, as the pieces finally fall into place.

“Is this about Vega? Virginia, that—” He cuts himself off, swallowing whatever harsher explanation almost slipped out. “It was a mess. I won’t pretend it wasn’t. But it’s not what you think.”
February 13, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Her jaw tightens, eyes flashing up to finally meet his. “There was a woman here yesterday,” she says, each word landing harder than the last. “She came looking for you. She didn’t exactly hide what she wanted.” A beat. “So tell me again I’m not in the way.”
February 13, 2026 at 7:20 PM
“You’re busy,” she says instead, the words snapping into place like armor. “I don’t want to overstay my welcome. Or your generosity.”

He stares at her, genuinely lost. “What are you talking about?”
