and as for grief, I’ve come to learn it's really just love. it’s all that unspent love that gathers up in the corners of our eyes, the lump in our throats, and in that hollow part of our chest. grief is just love with no place to go. which is why people say "it gets easier, but never goes away".

yeah, esp when you get them young. we got her when I was 8 in 2000, and she passed in 2022. the way I walk is fundamentally altered to avoid stepping on tiny paws. in fact, I'm only still here because of them. that's a bond that cannot be understated or denied.

I've never been a spiritual or religious person, but I like to think our loved ones do stick around at least for a little while, to help us, to say their own goodbye.

I took damn good care of them for those 17/22 years. & I remember the day he passed, when I was trying to sleep I felt one of them walking up to me to curl up in his usual spot, but when I opened my eyes, there was nothing. & the morning after her passing, I swear I could see her waiting at the door

I always feel bad thinking people are gonna yell at me, comparing pets to a human loss, but they really were my babies. I woke up from a dead sleep at every peep just like any new mom. I fed them better than I fed myself.

I really hope I start getting nice dreams like this of my babies. the last dream I had of them they were screaming for food and I "woke up" in a panic beating myself up for sleeping so long and for how long it's been since I last fed them ;; I know it's not the same, but I still miss them terribly.
