Praying is a former of meditation, so it is likely that praying, at the very least, gives a sense of wellbeing to the one praying. It is certainly preferable to rudeness and unkindness!

I thought the monasteries were exempt from paying taxes to the crown and instead sent funds to Rome. Imagine the outrage today if taxes on income from this much land were sent elsewhere. While undoubtedly a plunderfest I always understood it to be a logical idea. Have I misunderstood?
