Fairly self-evidently, immigration is holding this country together, far from tearing it apart.

This continual needless ceding of rhetorical ground to the far-right in our politics... Come *on*, Labour leadership. Do what you were elected to do and stand up for progressive and liberal values.

While Kidlington debates eternally whether it should be a village or a town, it is being quietly conjoined to Oxford's urban edge

The OPT would put up a strong fight against paving the section above Chilswell too, I'm sure

I think paving the Happy Valley path up to Chilswell would be a real shame, even the top-of-the-valley path. So much of its charm lies in its rusticity. It's been a year or two since I walked the portion of the Devil's Backbone here, but as I recall the current concrete is very uneven?

Thank you, kind thing to say!

I do tend to wear them until they are leaking so badly that they aren't really boots any more (or trainers in summer). I haven't been counting... Must be decently into double figures.

And some serious sweet-talking of the Scout Association regarding converting the path through Youlbury Wood

It's an incredible walking route - S Hinksey, Chilswell, Boars Hill. But yes, not really a suitable distance for an on-foot commute...

On a bike, there's half of a fine route to the top of Harcourt Hill, but then it footpaths out. I think Hinksey Hill would be the best bet at present?

The difference between a million and a billion is... about a billion.

The difference between a billion and a trillion is... about a trillion.

Having the will/fortune to accumulate so much money should be seen as a problem for society. It's a personal failing made all of our businesses.

A just and fair list.

Composer John McCabe certainly felt the same way as Katie does about the combo of Striding Edge (16'20" in the link) and Helvellyn (16'48"). His 'Cloudcatcher Fells' is a wonderful piece, well worth listening all the way through.

"The victory they never recovered from" is becoming a fashionable tactic in modern British politics. Everybody wants their 1906.

Anything that even hints at Christianity seeking to reclaim the controlling cultural role that it once held in the UK worries me right now. Just look at the US. We must resist attempts to embed religion into our lives.

Light on ideas, incompetent, heavy on bluff, with an amoral edge allied to a will to power layered under a personally pleasant manner to gull the unwary into trusting them?

David Cameron might have been the trendsetter?
